Interesting Facts You Might Not Know About Bookkeeping

Even bookkeepers and accountants can get bored of writing only about accounting. So in this blog, we’re going to have a little fun and do something different. Let’s explore some weird or interesting facts about accounting and bookkeeping.

Fun fact #1: Accounting is old

That’s right, accounting is a super ancient business. There are records dating to the Mesopotamians more than 7,000 years ago. Bookkeeping’s just a little newer, with records dating before 2000 BC.

Fun fact #2: Bookkeeping is the only English word that has three sets of letters back-to-back

So besides being old, we’re also super unique. No other word in the English language has three sets of letters repeated back-to-back.

Fun fact #3: Accountants were the ones to bring down Al Capone

Hmm, so now we’re detectives too? Well, in a way. In 1931, the FBI was finally able to arrest and convict Al Capone, the infamous mobster, for tax evasion

Although accounting is picked on a lot for being “boring,” we do have our own kind of fun. Accounting is both old, unique, and a surprising way of catching criminals. You might be surprised by the interesting facts you can find about accounting and bookkeeping. So give your bookkeeper a call to learn more about them. They might surprise you!
